THE ROLE
The Line Cook position is responsible for the preparation and cooking of the menu in a fast-casual space for Legends Hospitality at the Intrepid Museum. The Line Cook role entails positive interaction with the visitors and internal guests at the museum.
THE VENUE
Legends is the official hospitality partner for the food service areas at the Intrepid Museum, a premier tourism destination in the heart of New York City. The partnership includes full quick service restaurant, an outdoor seasonal kiosk serving beverage, snacks, catering events and a lighter fare concept aboard the ship serving sandwiches and flat breads along with grab and go items. With the opportunity of serving up to 10,000 guests 363 days a year, Legends has created a culture of fast and friendly service at the Intrepid
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Grilling, operating fryers, preparing pizza, salads and sandwiches
- Approaches all tasks with a “can-do” attitude
- Presents a cheerful, positive manner
- Must engage positively with teammates and customers
- Shows initiative and takes action with an appropriate level of independence
- Set up all stations and complete checklists for menu, as instructed by Kitchen Supervisor
- Inventory product and prepare it according to management and health guidelines
- Responsible for cleaning the equipment and cooking area
- Maintain a prepared and sanitary work area at all times
- Make sure all storage areas are tidy and all products are stored appropriately
- Requires cooking experience and willingness to learn
- Able to prepare and expedite food orders in a timely manner
- Able to work in a fast-paced work environment
- Able to read and understand food orders as they come into the kitchen and prioritize their execution
- Must be able to multi-task and expedite multiple orders simultaneously
- Run food items to dining area as needed, ensure proper temperature and quality is maintained
- Follows assignments for opening and closing procedures and food preparation
- Organize and practice FIFO for all product in refrigerators, freezers and dry storage areas
- Assist in putting away and organizing deliveries to the kitchen
- Prepare food items by complying with portion size, quality standards, departmental rules, policies and procedures
- Responsible for safety standards, neatness and sanitation of work areas
- Ensures that proper food temperatures are maintained
- Maintain a professional attitude and appearance
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen including shelves, walls, floors and drains
- Participates as a team player with specific responsibilities as related to preparation, excellent service and delivery of product
- Handles and cleans kitchen equipment carefully and safely to prevent damage or injury
- Perform other assignments as required
Qualifications:
- Ideal candidate will have NYC Food Handlers Certification
- Must be at least 18 years old
- The ideal candidate will have a culinary degree or have graduated from a certified apprenticeship program with a minimum of 2-3 years of cooking experience in the an ala carte restaurant, a contract foodservice industry, preferably in premium services, catering, or concessions environments for a sports and/or entertainment venue
- Experience in pizza preparation a plus
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a deadline-oriented environment
- Strong commitment to delivering a high level of customer and client service with demonstrated initiative and leadership
- Customer service oriented with the ability to interact with all levels of management
- Must be flexible to work weekends, nights and holidays
- Must be able to work in a team environment
- High level of organization and attention to detail
- Must be able to remain calm under stressful situations
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to make evaluations and decisions without immediate supervision
- Practice safe work habits and complete company and venue safety and general compliance training.
- Maintain a pleasant and collaborative attitude towards customers, co-workers, and management.
- Adheres too the Legends Global and venue company policies.
- Complete other duties as assigned by management.
- Available to work non-traditional hours (Nights, Weekends & Holidays)
COMPENSATION $19.50 per hour
